“TV Star Faces Driving Ban After M4 Speeding Incident”

A 28-year-old television presenter from Epping has been banned from driving for six months.

He was behind the wheel of a 2023 black Mercedes‑Benz SUV when the offence occurred.

Incident details

The speeding incident occurred on October 27 last year on the M4 in south Gloucestershire.

Cameras recorded the SUV doing 58mph in a temporary 50mph limit near junction 19 westbound.

Court hearing

The case was heard at Romford Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Walsh did not attend because work commitments had taken him out of England, his lawyer Gwyn Lewis said.

Mr Lewis appeared for him and said Walsh had pleaded guilty to exceeding a temporary 50mph motorway restriction.

Penalties and payment

Chairwoman Janis Sanders imposed a six-month driving ban.

Walsh was ordered to pay a £72 fixed penalty, a £28 surcharge and £85 in prosecution costs.

Mr Lewis said Walsh had been told not to drive from the previous night and could pay within 28 days.

Background

The TV star is a presenter and actor who has appeared in Death in Paradise and Casualty.

He co-presents the BBC game show Gladiators with his 65-year-old father Bradley.

The reboot began in early 2024 and he has appeared alongside his father since then.

Licence points and legal context

A minor motorway speeding offence normally attracts three penalty points.

Drivers with 12 or more points are usually disqualified from driving.

With nine existing points, the additional points would make a ban unavoidable.
