Pokemon Fire Red and LeafGreen Return to Switch Ahead of Pokémon Day

Nintendo will release pokemon fire red and Pokémon LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on Feb. 27, timed for Pokémon Day, bringing the 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes back to modern consoles.

Pokemon Fire Red comes back with its original Kanto roster

The Switch versions replicate the 2004 remakes that followed the original 1996 releases in Japan, and players can encounter the games’ original 151 Pokémon while exploring the Kanto region. The titles keep the classic turn-based gameplay and soundtrack and let players meet familiar characters such as Brock, Misty, Professor Oak and Giovanni, all on Feb. 27 when the games arrive on My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop.

GBA-era updates, local co-op and pricing

These Nintendo Switch editions include the Game Boy Advance updates introduced in 2004: abilities, natures, weather conditions, held items and the option to select your player character’s gender. Local co-op linking has also been modernized so players can team up without a Game Link Cable. Nintendo listed a suggested retail price of $19. 99 (USD) and said copies will be available at select retailers during launch week in addition to digital storefronts.

When to watch the Pokémon Presents and when the games unlock

A Pokémon Presents presentation is scheduled to air on Feb. 27 at 9 a. m. ET, and the new Switch versions will be available to play on that day. The titles will be offered individually in English, French and Spanish, with each language presented as a separate version that cannot be changed in-game, so buyers should verify language before purchase.

Fans who download pokemon fire red or Pokémon LeafGreen on Feb. 27 will be playing the 2004 remakes on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 systems, with options for local multiplayer on compatible hardware. The remakes aim to let longtime players revisit the original Kanto challenges and let new players experience those early entries in their original settings.

On Feb. 27, watch the Pokémon Presents at 9 a. m. ET; the games will be available that day on My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop and will also appear at select retailers during launch week for $19. 99.
