‘Baby Reindeer’ Creator Unveils Intense Drama ‘Half Man’ — Watch Trailer

Richard Gadd, the Baby Reindeer creator and Scottish Emmy winner, returns with Half Man. The intense drama marks his move from Netflix to HBO.

Premise and themes

Half Man is a six-episode limited series set between the 1980s and the present. The story unfolds in and around Glasgow.

The plot follows Niall and Ruben, two men tied like brothers but not by blood. Niall is mild-mannered and repressed. Ruben is charismatic, violent, and carries a criminal past.

Ruben repeatedly re-enters Niall’s life after deaths and other events. In the present day, he turns up uninvited at Niall’s wedding. The show uses time jumps to explore cyclical violence, trauma, masculinity, and toxic relationships.

Gadd stars as Ruben opposite Jamie Bell as Niall. Young versions of the characters appear, played by Stuart Campbell and Mitchell Robinson.
