pokemon fire red and Pokémon LeafGreen will be released as digital-only titles for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on Feb. 27, timed to arrive on Pokémon Day and priced at $19. 99 each — a relaunch aimed at players who want to revisit the Kanto region on modern hardware.
Pokemon Fire Red lands on Switch and Switch 2
The Nintendo versions of Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen — the 2004 Game Boy Advance remakes of the original Pokémon Red and Green — will be downloadable from the My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop on Feb. 27 in English, French and Spanish, with separate language purchases required. Each title carries a suggested retail price of $19. 99 (USD) and will also be available at select retailers during launch week for the same price.
Classic features preserved, plus GBA-era updates
Players will encounter the games’ original 151 Pokémon and hear the classic soundtrack while using turn-based battles familiar from the GBA remakes; the Switch versions keep updates introduced during the Game Boy Advance era such as abilities, natures, weather conditions and held items. Trainers can also choose their player character’s gender and meet established characters like Brock, Misty, Professor Oak and Giovanni as they explore Kanto.
Local co-op, language notes and presentation timing
The Switch releases add local co-op linking without requiring a Game Link Cable, and the titles will be playable on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. The game pages note that each language version is a separate download with no in-game language switch, and the releases are scheduled to be available after the Pokémon Presents presentation on Feb. 27, which airs at 9 a. m. ET.
Players interested in revisiting Kanto can prepare for the release on Feb. 27 and watch the Pokémon Presents presentation on the morning of Pokémon Day; the games will be available on the My Nintendo Store and Nintendo eShop after the show concludes.
