Promising Skyblivion Development Update Unveiled

Skyblivion, the ambitious fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, is nearing its final development stage. The modding team has shared a sneak peek of Wendelbek, a significant Ayleid ruin located in eastern Cyrodiil. This update comes amid Bethesda’s ongoing work on The Elder Scrolls VI, which has already been set for a major 2025 release.

Key Developments in Skyblivion

Wendelbek stands out as a richly detailed location in the game, boasting the highest number of Welkynd Stones found in any Oblivion location. This enhances its significance for players interested in the Atronach birthsign. At the same time, Wendelbek is intricately linked to Umbacano’s questline and features an altar designed for creating Black Soul Gems.

Impressive Gameplay Updates

The Skyblivion team recently unveiled 15 minutes of gameplay footage, showcasing what players can expect in this innovative reimagining of Oblivion. Available on the team’s social media platforms, the footage highlights the enhanced visuals and intricate details of Wendelbek.

  • Expanded cities with more visual depth
  • Overhauled biomes for immersive exploration
  • Improved dungeons with unique traits
  • Original voice acting for bespoke minor quests
  • A total of 223 quests integrated into Cyrodiil

Initially conceived as a direct port of the original game, Skyblivion has evolved into a comprehensive remake since 2016. While it retains several core gameplay mechanics from Oblivion, including the class and attribute system and the intricate lockpicking feature, it also introduces new elements to the Skyrim experience.

Release Timeline and Features

In December 2025, project leader Rebelzize announced a delay, pushing the expected release to 2026. While the team has yet to confirm a specific release window, they emphasized their commitment to perfecting the mod during this development phase.

At launch, Skyblivion is expected to focus solely on the core experience, excluding expansions like Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine. Additionally, the original spellmaking system will not be included due to a loss of source code during the transition to Skyrim: Special Edition.

The project will feature extensive mod support, although compatibility with all existing Skyrim mods is not guaranteed. For more information, interested players can explore the official Skyblivion website, which includes an interactive map of Cyrodiil and a gallery of screenshots and concept art.

While fans await the official release, the dedication and effort poured into Skyblivion have become a point of admiration for the Oblivion community.
