Costco Launches Nike Sneaker Collaboration; Resale Prices Surge
Costco has introduced exclusive early shopping hours for its executive members. This initiative began on Monday, allowing these members to shop starting at 9 a.m. The change aims to enhance the shopping experience for Costco’s loyal executive clientele.
Costco’s Nike Sneaker Collaboration
On January 30, Costco attracted sneaker enthusiasts with the launch of its Nike SB Dunk collaboration. Many members lined up to purchase a limited edition of the shoes, which sell for $135 at stores. The collaboration features the Kirkland Signature branding and has caused significant interest.
Sneaker Resale Surge
While some shoppers managed to buy the sneakers directly from Costco locations in New York, Oregon, California, and Washington, others faced the challenge of acquiring them from resale markets. Currently, third-party sellers on platforms like StockX, eBay, and Goat have listings ranging from $400 to $5,000. This notable surge in resale prices underscores the high demand for these exclusive sneakers.
Social Media Buzz
Various social media influencers, including DNA Show and Jacques Slade, shared their experiences online, showcasing the long lines at participating stores. DJ Willingham from the DNA Show reported arriving at his local Costco at 9 a.m. PT, only to find a significant queue waiting for the prized footwear. He praised Costco for managing the product drop effectively.
Future of the Collaboration
As of now, it remains uncertain whether Costco will restock the Kirkland Nike SB Dunks or expand the release to additional locations. On January 31, USA TODAY reached out to both Nike and Costco for clarification but received no response.
Design Features
The Kirkland Nike SB Dunks are designed with inspiration drawn from Costco’s signature sweatshirts. Key design elements include:
- Heather gray cotton upper
- Kirkland logo on the lateral heel
- Inner tongue tag resembling Costco shopping labels
- Kirkland graphic on the insole
- Insole underside featuring a label for Costco’s famous $1.50 hot dog
- Removable tag mimicking Costco’s Executive Membership card
Although the collaboration was expected to debut in the 2025 holiday season, confirmation of a release date has not been provided by either Nike or Costco, leading to speculation about the drop’s future.
