Bungie’s Marathon Shooter Arrives March 5th
Bungie has officially announced the release date for its much-anticipated game, Marathon. Initially slated for a September launch, the extraction shooter will now be available on March 5, 2024. This date marks the arrival of a new addition to the studio’s portfolio, known for hit franchises like Halo and Destiny.
Release Information
Marathon will be accessible on multiple platforms, including:
- Xbox Series S/X
- PlayStation 5
- PC
The game will retail for $39.99, offering players a rich experience in a futuristic setting.
Game Setting and Gameplay
Set in the year 2850, Marathon immerses players in a sci-fi universe where they assume the role of a Runner. Players will scavenge remnants of a collapsed civilization while engaging in combat. Teams can consist of up to three players, creating a dynamic cooperative environment.
PvPvE Combat
The game features a Player versus Player versus Environment (PvPvE) structure. Players must not only face off against creatures inhabiting various planets but also against rival players. This dual combat system adds complexity and strategy to each run.
Loot and Gear Mechanics
Marathon introduces intriguing mechanics for gear and loot. Upon dying during a run, players drop their acquired gear. However, surviving players can carry their loot into future runs, enhancing their capabilities and progression.
Release Timing and Competitors
Bungie’s decision to delay Marathon means its launch will occur several months after ARC Raiders. This game, developed by the creators of The Finals, has enjoyed significant popularity and consistently ranked among the top five most-played games on Steam since its late October debut. Bungie had originally aimed to debut Marathon ahead of ARC Raiders.
As March 5 nears, excitement builds around what Bungie’s Marathon will offer to the gaming community. With its unique blend of cooperative gameplay and intense competition, it is poised to carve a niche in the extraction shooter genre.
