Wyndham Clark Reacts Coolly to Brooks Koepka’s PGA Tour Comeback
Golf fans have been abuzz since Brooks Koepka’s unexpected exit from LIV Golf and his swift return to the PGA Tour. While many see this as a positive development for the Tour, not everyone shares the same enthusiasm, particularly Wyndham Clark, who has voiced his concerns.
Brooks Koepka’s Return to the PGA Tour
Koepka’s return was facilitated by the PGA Tour’s ‘Returning Member Program.’ This program is exclusive to former Tour members who have won significant tournaments, such as The Players or a major championship, between 2022 and 2025. Koepka fits these criteria, having won his third PGA Championship in 2023.
Wyndham Clark’s Perspective
Wyndham Clark recently revealed his mixed feelings about Koepka’s comeback during an interview on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. Clark, who had received an offer to join LIV Golf, expressed frustration over the way the pathway back to the Tour works.
- Clark noted that had he joined LIV Golf and later returned, he would have benefited from the same ‘Returning Member Program’ as Koepka.
- He commented, “I personally really like Brooks, and I think it’s ultimately really good for the PGA Tour.” However, he pointed out the competitive imbalance created by the situation.
- Clark added, “If you would have told me that I could have gone for a year-and-a-half, make a boatload of money and then be able to come back, I think almost everyone would have done that.”
Penalties for Koepka
Despite the benefits of returning, Koepka is not without penalties. Upon his return, he is required to make a $5 million charitable contribution. Additionally, he has agreed to a five-year forfeiture of potential equity in the Tour’s Player Equity Program, which could represent a loss of $50-$85 million. Furthermore, Koepka will not receive any FedEx Cup bonus payment in 2026 and must qualify for higher-purse events through performance.
Koepka’s comeback has caused a stir in professional golf, highlighting differing opinions within the sport. As discussions continue, it remains to be seen how this situation will evolve and impact both players and fans alike.
