Cam Jordan’s Season Proves He Won’t Discount Contract for Saints Again
Cam Jordan’s remarkable performance in the 2025 NFL season has solidified his status as a pivotal player for the New Orleans Saints. The defensive end achieved an impressive milestone by recording 10½ sacks, demonstrating he remains a formidable force at 36 years old.
Contract Negotiations Loom
As Jordan approaches free agency in March 2026, talks with the Saints about a new contract are expected. After a conversation with his wife, Nikki, Jordan confirmed he has her complete support in pursuing another season. “Until they don’t want me anymore, this is where I’ve always wanted to be,” he stated.
A Remarkable Season
Jordan’s 2025 season was unexpected, especially considering he only registered two sacks in 2023 and four in 2024. His 6½-sack increase from the previous year is one of the most significant improvements recorded by a player over 36 years old. General Manager Mickey Loomis admitted that they did not foresee such performance but expressed excitement for Jordan’s success.
Joining an Elite Group
Since 1982, only ten players over the age of 36 have recorded at least 10 sacks in a season. Below is a list of those players:
- Reggie White: 16 sacks (1998, age 37)
- Chris Doleman: 15 sacks (1998, age 37)
- Kevin Greene: 12 sacks (1998, age 36)
- Chris Doleman: 12 sacks (1997, age 36)
- Kevin Greene: 12 sacks (1999, age 37)
- Julius Peppers: 11 sacks (2017, age 37)
- Reggie White: 11 sacks (1997, age 36)
- Cam Jordan: 10½ sacks (2025, age 36)
- Too Tall Jones: 10 sacks (1987, age 36)
- Bruce Smith: 10 sacks (2000, age 37)
This short list features seven players, five of whom are Hall of Famers, further emphasizing the significance of Jordan’s achievement.
Performance Under Pressure
Jordan’s impressive season stands out, especially since he played a rotational role. While starting all 17 games, he participated in just over half the defensive snaps, primarily to maintain his energy for critical moments. His production surged in the last three games, where his playing time increased, and he recorded four more sacks.
His snap count during the season was 590, ranking him among those with the fewest snaps relative to high sack totals. “The Saints have done nothing but show that they want me to be here. Now, at what price?” he questioned, implying he would not accept a significant pay cut again.
As the Saints and Jordan prepare for potential negotiations, his exceptional 2025 season may reshape how they approach contract discussions. With Jordan showcasing his ability to compete effectively at an advanced age, both parties have much to consider in the weeks ahead.
