Arc Raiders Expeditions Revamp: A Week-Long Bloodbath with Skill Tree Overhaul
Embark Studios has revamped rewards for Arc Raiders Expeditions. The upcoming event runs from April 28 to May 4 and swaps stash-value rewards for damage-based scoring.
How Expeditions work
Expeditions are a recurring reset event held every few months. High-level players volunteer and must donate large quantities of resources and valuable gear.
Donations fund a caravan that carries a character away from the city of Speranza. That character is removed permanently.
After the Expedition, players create a new character. They keep items, skill points, and buffs awarded for their sacrifice.
Old versus new reward systems
Previously, skill points were granted by stash value. Players received points for every 600,000 credits of gear at the end.
That rule encouraged hoarding. Many avoided using high-value weapons during the event and relied on free loadouts.
Why the change
Embark said they want players to use loot during the event. They described the shift as moving to damage-based objectives and trials.
The studio framed the change as a way to reduce grinding and keep everyone active across the full five-day window.
Expected effects on player behaviour
With rewards tied to damage, players are likely to bring top weapons into fights. The result could be much more aggressive play.
Some have predicted the expeditions revamp will turn the event into a week-long bloodbath. Casual players may want to avoid heavy combat during the window.
Skill tree concerns and potential overhaul
Design director Virgil Watkins has signalled upcoming work on the skill tree. He told AIAS’s Game Makers Notebook that the current system under-serves players.
Embark designed the tree to cover both PvE and PvP. Watkins warned that locking powerful abilities risks creating imbalance.
The team is evaluating significant changes. The goal is to make skills define playstyles, not just tweak stats.
What this means for Expeditions
If a skill tree overhaul arrives, players could try varied builds after each account wipe. Damage-earned skill points in the event would accelerate those experiments.
The combined changes could reshape how Arc Raiders feels during and after Expeditions.
