Queensland Police confirmed an investigation is underway into the circumstances. They described the deceased as a Tasmanian resident.

Hours after the snorkeling death, the same vessel reported a different emergency. On April 18, a man in his 70s reportedly went overboard.

An intensive search was conducted for several hours before authorities suspended it. Officials do not believe the two incidents are connected.
