Tour de France Femmes 2027: Manchester Stage Announced

Organisers have unveiled the route for Tour de France Femmes 2027, with two opening stages in Greater Manchester. The announcement confirms Manchester as the finish of stage one and the start of stage two.

Route overview

Stage one runs from Leeds to Manchester on 30 July. The finish will be on Deansgate in Manchester city centre.

Riders will pass through Meltham in West Yorkshire. They will arrive in Oldham beside Dove Stone Reservoir.

  • Côte de Delph: 2.1km at 6.3% gradient.
  • Descent through Rochdale into central Manchester.
  • Finish line on Deansgate, passing Manchester Cathedral.

Stage two leaves Manchester the following day. The route heads into the Peak District and finishes in Sheffield.

Race schedule and wider route

The women’s race begins in Leeds on 30 July. It then moves to Manchester and Sheffield before concluding on The Mall in London.

The men’s Tour will also pass through the region in 2027. Its course includes Lancashire, Greater Manchester and Liverpool.

Notable firsts

This edition will feature the first-ever team time trial in the history of the women’s Tour. It is also the first time both Grand Départs have been held in the same country outside France.

Local reaction

ITV reporter David Chisnall attended the route reveal. Local politicians and riders were also present at the event.

Manchester City Council leader Bev Craig welcomed the announcement. She said the stages will inspire wider participation in cycling and boost local businesses.

Dame Sarah Storey, Greater Manchester’s Active Travel Commissioner, described the opening stages as a major opportunity. She highlighted the visibility this will give to elite women’s cycling and long-term local benefits.

Organisers expect millions of spectators along the routes. The city will host both pre- and post-stage activity due to the unique finish-and-start arrangement.
