Jamie Redknapp Surprised as Dad Harry Criticizes His Remark About Mum

Jamie Redknapp says his parents kept him grounded as his football career took off. He credits his mum Sandra and dad Harry for stopping him getting big-headed.

Early career and milestones

Redknapp moved to Liverpool in 1991 for £350,000 at 17. He had made 13 appearances for AFC Bournemouth, managed by his father, before the transfer.

He later earned 17 England caps and played for Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton. His rise coincided with the Premier League launch in 1992.

Family discipline and a memorable rebuke

Jamie Redknapp was surprised when dad Harry criticized his remark about mum during a family holiday. He admits he made a cheeky comment to Sandra at about 17 or 18 years old.

Harry confronted him sternly, reminding him to show respect. Jamie says that rebuke motivated him to train harder and prove himself.

Keeping perspective

Redknapp says his older brother and parents kept him humble during the heady days at Liverpool. He warns that success can easily lead to arrogance.

Harry and Sandra beyond football

Harry Redknapp, now 79, became a national favourite on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2018. He returned for the all-star I’m A Celebrity… South Africa series.

Sandra fell seriously ill with sepsis before one of his earlier stints. Harry almost withdrew, but Sandra urged him to go.

An emotional reunion

Producers once summoned Harry urgently to meet Sandra. Seeing her in camp left him emotional. He revealed it was the first time she had seen him cry.

Jamie discussed these memories with AFC Bournemouth’s The Wave. For further coverage, see Filmogaz.com. The I’m A Celebrity… South Africa series airs on ITV1 at 9pm.
