CinemaCon Unveils Exciting Teasers: ‘Dune 3’ and ‘Social Network’ Sequel

CinemaCon returned to Las Vegas this week for its annual industry showcase. Paramount Skydance chief David Ellison opened the event with the rallying cry, “Long live the movies.”

Studio spotlights

Disney and Marvel

Jon Favreau revealed a theatrical film starring Grogu and Pedro Pascal. Sigourney Weaver also appears. The release date is May 22.

  • Toy Story 5 resumes the franchise on June 19. Tom Hanks and Tim Allen reprise Woody and Buzz.
  • Whalefall adapts Daniel Kraus’s novel. Austin Abrams plays a diver swallowed by a sperm whale. Brian Duffield co-wrote and directed. The film opens Oct. 16.
  • Marvel showed a first look at Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Kevin Feige and Robert Downey Jr. presented the footage. The film debuts Dec. 18, the same day as Dune: Part Three.

Paramount

Tom Cruise will return for a third Top Gun film. Jerry Bruckheimer produces. The announcement followed the success of Top Gun: Maverick.

  • Jackass: Best and Last will hit theaters June 26. Johnny Knoxville and the original crew screened a new trailer.

Warner Bros.

Alejandro Iñárritu presented Digger, a dark comedy starring Tom Cruise. Cruise appears with gray hair and a Southern accent. The film releases Oct. 2.

  • Practical Magic 2 reunites Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman this September. The sequel continues the cult classic’s magical themes.
  • Dune: Part Three opened with a seven-minute preview. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa appeared with Denis Villeneuve. The story jumps 17 years forward. Paul Atreides rules while married to Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh. The film arrives Dec. 18.

Sony

Tom Holland returns as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The hero adopts a new moniker, “Maynard.” The film is set for July 31.

  • A follow-up to The Social Network was announced. Aaron Sorkin wrote a script set 17 years later. Jeremy Strong portrays Mark Zuckerberg. The project, billed as the ‘Social Network’ sequel, opens Oct. 9.

Universal and NBCUniversal

Christopher Nolan previewed The Odyssey, his adaptation of Homer’s epic. The cast is large and star-studded. The film releases July 17 and was shot entirely on IMAX film.

  • Disclosure Day is Steven Spielberg’s new sci-fi entry about aliens. Spielberg promised more questions than answers. The film lands June 12.
  • Minions & Monsters follows the Minions as they try to conquer Hollywood. Allison Janney and Jesse Eisenberg are among the voices. The film opens July 1.

Amazon MGM Studios

Michael B. Jordan directs and stars in a new take on The Thomas Crown Affair. Adria Arjona co-stars and Jon Batiste composed the score. The release date is March 5, 2027.

  • Spaceballs: The New One will arrive in April 2027. The sequel brings back original cast members and adds Josh Gad, Keke Palmer, and Lewis Pullman.

Other notable premieres

Neon offered a first look at Hope, a sci-fi thriller from Na Hong-jin. GKIDS showed early material for Godzilla Minus Zero, the follow-up to Takashi Yamazaki’s 2023 film.
