Enter Massachusetts RMV Low Number Plate Lottery for 250th Anniversary Plates

The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles reminds residents that the low number plate lottery ends soon. The entry period closes at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17.

More than 44,000 people have already entered. There is no fee to submit an entry.

How to enter

Residents may submit entries through the RMV system before the deadline. To apply, many will choose to Enter Massachusetts RMV Low Number Plate Lottery for 250th Anniversary Plates online.

The special low plate drawing is a joint effort. The RMV partners with the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission on this program.

Plate details and availability

One thousand low number plates will be awarded in the lottery. Available options include numbers 1 through 999 and the commemorative plate “1776”.

  • The plate design uses red, white and blue colors.
  • It shows “1776” surrounded by 13 stars and the phrase “250 Years of Independence.”
  • More than 71,000 of these specialty plates are already registered in Massachusetts.

Fees and registration

Winners pay a biennial $40 special plate fee. They also pay the standard $60 registration fee, if applicable.

Initial registration costs depend on each applicant’s current plate expiration date. Total costs may therefore vary.

Draw results and notifications

The lottery drawing will be broadcast online on May 7. Individual winner results will be posted online the same day.

Applicants will receive email notifications at the address used in their submission. Results will also be available for public viewing.
