Air Canada Chooses Collins Aerospace Seating for Airbus A321XLR Fleet
Air Canada has chosen Collins Aerospace seating for its Airbus A321XLR fleet, the airlines announced at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. The agreement covers seating across a 30-aircraft order.
Cabin layout and capacity
The A321XLR configuration will include 14 premium Aurora business suites. The economy cabin will feature 168 Meridian+ main cabin seats. The total seat count on the type will be 182.
Aurora business suites
The Aurora suites are lie-flat and tailored for this single-aisle aircraft. Air Canada worked with Collins and design partner Acumen on materials, trims, and finishes. The design aims to balance privacy and sociability with warm tones, custom lighting, and premium materials like wood, stone, and bronze.
Collins engineered the suite geometry to match the A321XLR fuselage. That allows an extra premium row and increases galley capacity for long-haul catering. The layout seeks to preserve passenger living space while supporting full-service operations.
Meridian+ main cabin seats
Meridian+ brings widebody design principles to a single-aisle cabin. Its contoured architecture reclaims room for hips, knees, and elbows. An articulating seat diaphragm adds adaptive support to improve comfort.
Air Canada selected upgraded seatback options to enhance stowage, inflight entertainment, and personal power supply. The choices intend to raise the economy experience on long sectors.
Comments from industry leaders
Cynthia Muklevicz, vice president of Global Airlines and Lessors at Collins Aerospace, said the Aurora product brings a widebody business class feel to single-aisle jets. She noted the integrated approach to suites, monuments, and galley space optimizes the cabin footprint.
John Moody, managing director of On-Board Product at Air Canada, described the goal as elevating the onboard experience. He emphasized the focus on space, technology, and bespoke finishes to create a personal retreat for customers.
Delivery schedule and show activity
The first of 30 A321XLRs is scheduled to enter service this spring. Collins and Air Canada presented demonstrations during Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg. The show coincided with Passenger Experience Week and related industry events.
