Startled
Startled finished strongly in a Nottingham handicap last season. He won that race by two and a half lengths.
That form has been well supported since, with five rivals from the race winning next time. On reappearance at Lingfield in February he finished third, beaten only half a length and a neck.
He ran from 2 lb out of the weights in a higher-class handicap. He was caught further back than ideal in a contest where front-running proved advantageous.
Timeform’s reporter awarded him a Horse In Focus Flag after that run. He looks likely to improve for a step up to seven furlongs in the 15:00 handicap at Newmarket.
Regal Envoy reunited with Murphy
Regal Envoy faded late last year but has dropped in the weights. He begins his new campaign on a mark that appears lenient given his early 2025 turf form.
He won three of his first five starts last season, including the Newmarket five-furlong handicap he contests again at 15:35. He carries just 2 lb more than for last year’s success.
He remains 5 lb below the rating he beat at Windsor in June. Oisin Murphy rode him to all three wins last year and also partnered him to victory at Salisbury the previous season.
Under Murphy, Regal Envoy has four wins from seven rides, a 57% strike rate. Trainer William Knight has once again booked Murphy for the ride.
Tiger Power
The mile handicap for three-year-olds goes at 16:10. Tiger Power tops Timeform’s weight-adjusted figures by 6 lb.
He has a BHA mark of 85. He won on debut at Haydock and finished third at Newcastle last season.
He returned at Southwell in February and defied a penalty to win by two and a quarter lengths. He travelled well through that race and took the lead approaching the furlong marker.
The step up to a mile clearly suited him on that occasion. The handicapper may have underestimated him, leaving Tiger Power on a potentially attractive mark.
