Top 2027 QB Commit Joins Will Stein, UK Football
Kentucky added a major piece to its 2027 class on Monday. Four-star Illinois quarterback Jake Nawrot committed to the Wildcats, choosing UK over Oregon, Iowa and Kansas State.
Recruiting impact
Nawrot is the No. 2 quarterback in the 2027 high school class. Rivals ranks him No. 32 nationally. The 247Sports Composite lists him at No. 40 overall.
If he holds that spot through signing day, he would become the highest-rated high school quarterback to sign with Kentucky in the recruiting website era. UK has not landed a four-star out-of-state high school quarterback since Morgan Newton and Ryan Mossakowski in 2009.
Player profile
Nawrot starred at John Hersey High School in Arlington Heights, Illinois. As a junior he threw for more than 3,000 yards and recorded 41 touchdown passes.
- Position: Quarterback
- Class: 2027
- High school: John Hersey (Arlington Heights, Ill.)
- Junior year: 3,000+ passing yards, 41 TDs
Coaching pitch and staff
Offensive coordinator Will Stein has not yet coached a game at Kentucky. His reputation for developing quarterbacks helped attract Nawrot. The commitment represents a marquee Top 2027 QB commit for the program.
Stein and the staff hosted several blue-chip signal-callers on campus after arriving in December. Stein emphasized that recruits must want to play for UK and compete at Kroger Field. He also highlighted the staff’s recent success sending quarterbacks to New York and the NFL.
What it means for UK football
The commitment gives Kentucky momentum in shaping an elite 2027 class. It also signals recruiting traction beyond state lines. Nawrot’s arrival could fast-track competition at the quarterback position.
