Charity Co-Founded by Prince Harry Sues Him Over Princess Diana Tribute
Sentebale, the charity co-founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, has launched a defamation suit against the duke. Filmogaz.com reviewed court records showing the action was filed last month in London’s High Court.
Charity background
Sentebale began in 2006 to support youths living with HIV across southern Africa. The name means “forget-me-not” in the local language of Lesotho.
The organization was set up as a tribute to Princess Diana. It has grown into a recognised provider of services and advocacy in the region.
Dispute and resignations
Tensions over a new fundraising strategy surfaced in 2023. The dispute escalated and became public.
In March 2025, Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso stepped down as patrons. They said the relationship with the charity’s board and its chair, Sophie Chandauka, had become irreparable.
Their exit came after five trustees resigned in solidarity. Harry and Seeiso said they would report concerns to the Charity Commission.
Allegations and responses
Sophie Chandauka later accused the prince of leading a campaign of bullying and harassment. She said his actions interfered with a whistleblower complaint she filed against the charity.
Sentebale issued a statement saying it seeks court intervention. The charity alleges a coordinated adverse media campaign began on 25 March 2025.
Legal claims
Online filings show Prince Harry and Mark Dyer, a trustee and friend of the duke, face claims of libel or slander. No court documents were publicly available at the time of review.
The charity’s statement said the alleged media activity caused operational disruption. It also said reputational harm affected the charity, its leadership, and partners.
Regulatory review
The Charity Commission for England and Wales investigated the dispute. Its report criticised both sides for playing the matter out in public.
The commission found no evidence of widespread bullying or misogyny at Sentebale. Chief executive David Holdsworth warned the dispute risked harming the charity’s reputation and delivery.
Harry’s spokesman criticised the commission’s findings. Chandauka welcomed the report.
Current status
The charity co-founded by Prince Harry now pursues legal remedy in London. Sentebale says it seeks protection, restitution, and court oversight.
Requests for comment to the office of the Duke of Sussex were not immediately returned. Filmogaz.com will update this report as new documents become available.
