Greggs Debuts Chicken Roll, Completing Iconic Trilogy with Sausage and Vegan Options
Greggs has added a chicken version of its popular puff pastry roll to its permanent menu. The new item completes the baker’s trio alongside the sausage and vegan rolls.
Product details
The Chicken Roll features seasoned chicken wrapped in glazed puff pastry. Greggs describes the pastry as crisp and golden.
The roll contains 305 calories. It will sell for £1.35 when it launches on Thursday.
The firm frames the move as Greggs Debuts Chicken Roll, Completing Iconic Trilogy with Sausage and Vegan Options. The chicken option joins the Sausage Roll and the pork-free Vegan Roll.
Launch tasting event
Greggs will offer early tasters at a pop-up in London’s Soho. The address is 15 Bateman Street.
The event runs on Wednesday (8) with 20-minute tasting slots between 3.30pm and 9pm. Places are first-come, first-served.
Guests must arrive in groups of three. Each trio receives three complimentary rolls and a free chicken-themed cocktail or mocktail.
A company spokeswoman said the roll completes the three-roll collection and called it the trilogy’s headline act.
Financial performance and expansion
The launch comes amid pressure from cautious shoppers. Rising living costs, higher tax and labour costs are affecting demand.
Greggs reported statutory pre-tax profits fell 17.9% to £167.4 million for the year to December 27. This compares with the previous year.
Total sales rose 6.8% to £2.15 billion over the same period. Like-for-like growth was supported by continued store openings.
The business added 121 net stores in 2025. Its estate reached 2,739 locations by year-end.
Greggs plans around 120 further openings this year. The long-term aim is to expand to significantly more than 3,000 UK shops.
Strategic context
Putting the chicken roll on the permanent menu aims to broaden customer choice. It may also support sales during a challenging market.
Store expansion remains a core growth strategy. New outlets have helped the company report higher total sales despite profit decline.
