Country Star Ray Stevens Hospitalized in Nashville After Neck Injury
Country star Ray Stevens, 87, was briefly hospitalized in the Nashville area after a fall that fractured his neck. A press release said the accident happened on Sunday and he is now recovering.
Injury and recovery
Doctors have advised a neck brace for approximately four weeks following the neck injury. Despite the fracture, he remains fully mobile and in good spirits, the statement added.
Recent health history and release
His new collection, “Favorites Old & New,” is still scheduled to debut on Friday. Last summer in Nashville, Stevens suffered a heart attack and was admitted after reporting chest pain. He underwent a heart catheterization and minimally invasive surgery soon after, and the initial procedure was described as successful.
Career and personal life
Stevens began his recording career at 18 when he signed with Capitol Records’ Prep Records in 1957. He collaborated with artists such as Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton during his long career. He earned his first Grammy in 1971.
In January 2024, he announced plans to slow his performing schedule and stop regular shows at his Ray Stevens CabaRay Showroom by year’s end. By December, he reversed that decision and returned to the venue to promote the album “Say Whut?”. He was married to Penny Jackson Ragsdale for more than 60 years until her death in 2021. The couple had two daughters, Suzi and Timi.
