The couple’s decision to purchase this dilapidated house stemmed from their desire for a project rather than a move-in-ready home.

Before committing to the mansion, the Whites were close to finalizing a deal on a modern duplex. However, they changed direction after a conversation with their real estate agent. The couple was searching for a true fixer-upper, which led them to their current project.

Despite the excitement, the renovation comes with significant risks. Just months into the project, they fell victim to theft twice in a row. Thieves stole the wiring from the property, resulting in a $60,000 rewiring expense for the couple.
The house has also suffered extensive water damage and mould. Jay commented humorously on the state of the structure, saying, “Let’s just say, the big, bad wolf would barely have to huff and puff to blow this thing down.” They have discovered numerous defects during their renovation efforts, adding to the difficulty of the task.

Though the renovation process can be overwhelming at times, Stacey finds it equally rewarding. “Demo and clean up seems defeating some days, but it’s all exciting right now,” she shared.
