Yorkshire Reservoir Visitors: Important Spring Advisory Issued

Yorkshire Reservoir Visitors: Important Spring Advisory Issued

Filmogaz.com reports that Yorkshire Water has issued a safety alert for reservoir visitors ahead of the Easter weekend. The holiday runs from April 3 to April 6, and guidance also covers the forthcoming May bank holidays.

Ranger presence this spring and summer

Ranger teams will be on-site throughout spring and summer. They will engage with visitors and share information on site safety.

Teams will also promote the Countryside Code. Their aim is to support safe, responsible outdoor visits.

Guidance for Yorkshire Reservoir Visitors

Visitors are asked to follow simple rules to protect people and wildlife. The advice is part of an Important Spring Advisory from the operator.

  • Take all litter home, and leave sites as you found them.
  • Do not light barbecues on reservoir grounds.
  • Park considerately and use designated parking areas.
  • Keep children in sight and stay vigilant near water.
  • Keep dogs on a lead to protect nesting birds and lambs.
  • Swimming in reservoirs is prohibited due to life-threatening risks.

Why swimming is banned

Reservoirs contain cold water that can cause cold water shock. Hidden underwater hazards also increase the risk of drowning.

These dangers can turn a short swim into a life-threatening situation.

Wildlife and livestock protection

Dogs off leads can disturb nesting birds and young lambs. Keeping dogs restrained helps protect local fauna and farming interests.

Visitors are encouraged to follow posted signage and seasonal restrictions.

Alastair Harvey, lead countryside and woodland advisor, said sites are made accessible for everyone. He urged visitors to act responsibly and keep the countryside safe.

This Important Spring Advisory aims to safeguard visitors, wildlife, and farmland during the busy holiday periods. Follow the Countryside Code and heed ranger advice for a safe visit.
