Register Now: Final Call for Voter Registration Before Deadline
Voter registration for Sandwell’s local elections closes at midnight on Monday 20 April 2026. Polling day is Thursday 7 May 2026.

Registering online takes around five minutes. Register now to be sure you can take part on polling day.
- You can vote in person at a polling station.
- You may apply for a postal vote.
- You can appoint a trusted person as a proxy voter.
Photo ID rules and free ID applications
Voters must show valid photographic ID at polling stations in May. Most people already hold an accepted form of ID.
If you lack an accepted ID, you can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate online. The deadline for free ID applications is 5pm on Tuesday 28 April 2026.

Messages from officials
Shokat Lal, Sandwell’s Electoral Registration Officer, urged residents not to miss their chance to vote. He encouraged anyone unsure about registration or voting methods to contact the elections team for help.
Niki Nixon, Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission, reminded voters to check their registration status. She advised updating an address online, which takes only five minutes, and applying early for postal, proxy, or free ID if needed.
