Shrinking S3, Episode 10 Recap: Jimmy Reaches His Breaking Point

Graduation and family tensions

Alice graduates from high school in this episode. The day is celebratory and painfully empty at once.

Randy, Jimmy’s father, leaves town the morning of the ceremony. He had planned a fishing trip instead of attending.

Randy’s absence deepens Jimmy’s longstanding resentment. Randy remains emotionally closed and inconsistent.

Alice accepts her grandfather’s choice without drama. That response hurts Jimmy more than he expected.

Paul finishes his final week at the practice. He arranges to hand the building to Gaby.

Gaby will convert the practice into a trauma center. She previously endured the loss of a patient this season.

Paul agreed to move to Connecticut to be near Meg and her family. He packed, finalized a $1-a-month rent deal, and asked Paul to get Venmo.

Jimmy learns about the transfer second-hand. He never received a direct conversation from Paul about any of it.

All pressures collide on graduation day. Between his father, Paul, dating troubles, and Alice’s departure, Jimmy snaps.

He does not unleash his anger on Randy. Instead he directs it at Paul, his long-time mentor.

Jimmy feels unacknowledged for his past support. He is furious Paul gave the practice away without consulting him.

Paul had once floated the idea of Jimmy taking over. Jimmy had declined at the time, but still wanted to be included in later decisions.

The episode closes with major characters leaving or preparing to leave. Relationships and routines are about to change.

Alice will attend Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Soccer practices begin in June.
Paul departs for Connecticut, leaving unresolved conflict with Jimmy.
Sean moves from the pool house into Derek’s apartment.
Brian and Charlie relocate to Tennessee for a three-month work assignment.
Derek and Liz plan a large trip as they step into grandparent life.

Gaby stays behind to build the trauma center. She will likely be busy and no longer paired with Jimmy at work.

This installment is a pivotal setup for Shrinking’s finale. Jimmy faces the risk of regression without his nearest supports.
