Leigh Marina Unveils New Creative Event Space in Major Investment Plan

Filmogaz.com reports that Joe Fordham has applied for an alcohol licence for his new venue at Leigh Marina.

No Place Like Home is billed as a co-work area and creative event space hosting exhibitions and pop-ups.

Licence application and proposed programming

Fordham, 42, has asked Southend Council to allow alcohol sales daily between 11am and 10pm.

He also seeks permission for live music on Saturdays from 7pm to 11pm.

The venue would act mainly as a co-working hub on weekdays.

It is planned to host workshops, film screenings and talks with local artists and students.

Community concerns and response

Some residents and business owners fear the marina could shift away from marine-focused uses.

They warn traditional businesses risk being displaced by leisure developments.

Fordham insists the venue would not be alcohol-led and that drinks would be served only during certain events.

He says music levels will be kept low and used when appropriate.

Wider marina investment

Thamescraft holds the marina lease from Southend Council.

Its director, Oliver Keal, says the firm plans further work on pontoons, moorings and sea walls.

Keal adds Thamescraft will support independent businesses while phasing investment to match funding.

He invites locals to visit and discuss the project with marina operators.

Public engagement

An application has been lodged with Southend Council for the alcohol licence.

Anyone interested can speak with Thamescraft representatives or marina community members.

The plans form part of a wider major investment in the site.

Supporters say a creative event space could boost local culture and trade.
