Norfolk Choir Set to Perform at Canterbury Archbishop’s Installation
All three bishops from the Diocese of Norwich will attend an installation service at Canterbury Cathedral on Wednesday. Bishops and archbishops from around the world will also be present for the welcome of Archbishop Sarah.
Diocese representation
The Bishop of Norwich, the Rt Rev Graham Usher, served on the Crown Nominations Commission. His role helped inform the selection of the new archbishop.
The Bishop of Lynn, the Rt Rev Jane Steen, praised the African Choir of Norfolk. She welcomed their return after their performance at Norwich’s recent Black History Month service.
The Bishop of Thetford, the Rt Revd Ian Bishop, said many will be praying for Archbishop Sarah. He described her faith and conviction as central to taking on this demanding role.
Musical and Norfolk connections
The service will include an anthem by composer Joanna Marsh. The piece, All Shall Be Well, draws on the words of Julian of Norwich.
Julian of Norwich lived in the city more than 600 years ago. She wrote Revelations of Divine Love, which contains the line, “All shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.”
The African Choir of Norfolk will perform to greet the proclamation of the Gospel. The vibrant ensemble was founded in Norfolk in 2019 by Anna Mudeka and features musicians from many African countries.
Service focus
The installation will pay particular attention to the contribution of women in the Church. It marks the historic moment of the first woman assuming the archbishopric.
