TalkTalk Business Thrilled by Strategic Acquisition of Planet IT

TalkTalk Business has completed the purchase of Oxfordshire IT specialist Planet IT. The move strengthens its managed services capabilities.

Deal details

Planet IT reported turnover of £16.4m for calendar 2024. The company provides IT support, cyber security and Microsoft consultancy.

It ranked 242nd in the Oxygen 250 for 2026. Planet IT also appears on the Oxygen Fast-Growth 50 alumni list.

Strategic rationale

The acquisition follows TalkTalk Business’ demerger from TalkTalk in February 2026. The business has signalled a shift beyond its connectivity roots.

TalkTalk Business styles itself as a managed network services provider. TalkTalk Business said it is thrilled by the strategic acquisition of Planet IT.

The buyer recorded turnover of £67.7m in a shortened ten-month period during calendar 2024. Planet IT’s services will complement national connectivity and advanced networking offerings.

Leadership and continuity

Founders Gavin Jones and Sean Smith will stay with the business. Their leadership team, directors and staff will also remain in place.

The pair are long-time friends who trace business ties back to childhood. They began trading together as youngsters with a car-washing venture aged 12.

Executive comments

Ruth Kennedy, CEO at TalkTalk Business, described the move as an important step to expand managed services. She emphasised the strategic fit between the two firms.

Gavin Jones said joining TalkTalk Business brings scale and investment to support future growth. He affirmed continuity for customers and suppliers.
