St David's Day In Welsh: st david's day in welsh — Catherine shares first message entirely in Welsh
Catherine, Princess of Wales, has for the first time delivered a video message entirely in Welsh to mark st david's day in welsh. The short video, released this week, featured both Catherine and Prince William speaking in Welsh and was published by Kensington Palace; it was recorded earlier this week on the Windsor estate.
Royal video message in Welsh
In the video the couple stood together while William opened with: "To everyone in Wales, a very happy St David's Day. " Catherine said: "Wales is very close to our hearts, and we look forward to every visit. " William went on to say: "It is a beautiful country, with a rich history and wonderful people. " Catherine finished the message: "Wishing you a day full of celebration with family and friends. "
Visit to Powys and mid Wales
The royal couple paid a visit earlier this week to Powys, where they greeted cheering crowds holding bunches of daffodils, the national flower of Wales. During the visit Catherine spoke about her passion for mothers' mental health when the pair visited mid Wales on a rainy Wednesday and met members of a perinatal service for women experiencing problems linked to early motherhood.
The morning in Llanidloes and Newtown
The pair first travelled to The Hanging Gardens in Llanidloes, a community project focused on resilience and creativity, before going on to visit an art gallery in Newtown. They arrived to cheers from crowds waving Welsh flags and holding bunches of daffodils, then spent time sipping hot drinks and chatting to people making signs, baking cakes and making traditional stew in preparation for the festivities.
Engaging with well-wishers and selfies
The royal couple later braved the wet weather for 25 minutes to speak to well-wishers and pose for selfies. The sequence of events during their visits included meeting community groups, speaking with beneficiaries of local projects and discussing perinatal support services for new mothers.
St David's Day events and history
Wales celebrates its patron saint every year on 1 March, and events including parades and concerts will be held in villages and towns across Wales on Sunday. Concerts and an educational talk will also be held to mark St David's Day in the West Midlands. The figure of St David is shrouded in legend: little is known about the saint, who, legend, was born on a clifftop in Pembrokeshire during a violent storm after angels foretold his birth to St Patrick 30 years prior. Some believe he lived for 100 years and died on 1 March 589, which is recognised as the Feast of St David.
