Pokemon Winds And Waves: Trailer, starters and a 2027 Switch 2 launch window
A new trailer and official announcements confirmed pokemon winds and waves as the Gen 10 pair now slated for Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. The reveal arrived during a 30th anniversary stream on Pokémon Day and included starter reveals, language details, and updates for other franchise titles.
Trailer unveils three starters: Browt, Pombon and Gecqua
The trailer introduced the first partner Pokémon for the new games: Browt, Pombon and Gecqua, who were presented as the three starter Pokémon. Their colors and environments shown in the trailer indicate Browt is a grass type, Pombon a fire type and Gecqua a water type. The footage also featured Pikachu sporting fetching beachwear and Oddish, and it ends by taking viewers into the ocean to show a number of water Pokémon and a new region for the series.
Release plans and earlier Game Freak leak
The pair are identified as the Gen 10 games and are set to hit Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027. A Game Freak leak last October had suggested Wind and Waves would be out this year with DLC to follow in 2027, creating a gap between the earlier leak and the confirmed Switch 2 release window.
Confirmation on Pokémon Day, languages and in-game scope
The Pokémon Company confirmed the titles during a 30th anniversary stream on Pokémon Day. The Pokémon account posted that in Wind and Waves players will travel across beautiful windswept islands and a vast ocean with glittering waves that ebb and flow, and that players will team up with Pokémon to overcome challenges and even the forces of nature. The games will be playable in 11 languages, including Brazilian Portuguese.
Other franchise releases announced on the Pokémon Presents stream
The Pokémon Presents stream on Friday also included updates for many other games. The battle-focused Pokémon Champions, described as a modern spin on Pokémon Stadium, will debut on Nintendo Switch in April before arriving on iOS and Android later this year, with cross-play available between the three platforms. It was confirmed that Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness will hit the GameCube library on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack on Switch 2 in March. The stream noted that Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green first debuted in 1996 on Game Boy in Japan and were later released as Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue in the West; those games were remade for Game Boy Advance in 2004 as Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version, and starting today those remakes are available on Switch and Switch 2 for $20 each. Meanwhile, Pokémon Pokopia, a cozy life sim spin-off, will hit Switch 2 on March 5.
Error 418 — I am a teapot and a brief rhyme
An Error 418 entry titled "I am a teapot" displayed the short rhyme: "Short and stout, this is my handle, this is my spout. "
The confirmed pokemon winds and waves titles, Pokémon Wind and Pokémon Waves, along with the new starters and the Switch 2 launch window, form the core of the franchise news coming out of the anniversary stream.
