Pokemon Firered and LeafGreen coming to Switch on Feb. 27, 2026

Nintendo will release pokemon firered and LeafGreen as standalone eShop titles on Nintendo Switch on Feb. 27, 2026, the day that marks the franchise’s 30th anniversary. The company says the Switch versions will be available immediately after a Pokémon Presents livestream scheduled for that date.

Pokemon Firered and LeafGreen arrive after Pokémon Presents

The Pokémon Presents presentation is set for Friday, February 27 and will be broadcast at 6: 00 a. m. PST / 2: 00 p. m. GMT / 3: 00 p. m. CET. The two Game Boy Advance-era titles will go on sale after the livestream, and Nintendo confirmed they will be sold individually for $19. 99/£16. 99 each rather than added to the Nintendo Switch Online classic games collection.

Nintendo frames FireRed and LeafGreen as the "ultimate versions"

Nintendo explained that FireRed and LeafGreen were chosen for standalone Switch releases because they are the "ultimate versions" of the original adventures, offering various features and upgrades on top of the contents of the original Red and Blue games. The company also said it has nothing to announce regarding any other potential titles joining the Game Boy: Nintendo Classics service.

Price, timing and what comes next

With the release date set for Feb. 27, 2026, fans will be able to buy the titles directly from the eShop after the Pokémon Presents broadcast. The presentation itself is positioned as a 30th-anniversary update from The Pokémon Company, and Nintendo’s FAQ clarifies the company’s focus on offering the enhanced FireRed and LeafGreen editions rather than standalone Red/Blue re-releases.

The next confirmed milestone is the Pokémon Presents livestream on February 27 at 6: 00 a. m. PST; the FireRed and LeafGreen Switch releases will be available following that presentation.
