Discover 100 Iconic National Architecture Works from the Last 50 Years at CCB

The architectural landscape serves as a living testament to the evolution of cities and nations. This concept is at the heart of the exhibition “Habitar Portugal,” which opened on February 11 at the Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB). The CCB itself is one of the iconic structures featured in the showcase.

Overview of “Habitar Portugal” Exhibition

Curated by the Ordem dos Arquitectos, this seventh edition of the exhibition presents 100 architectural works from various geographies. These include regions from Minho to Brasília, and from the Algarve to Saudi Arabia.

Curatorial Perspective

The exhibition is overseen by curators Alexandra Saraiva, Célia Gomes, and Rui Leão. They aim to provide a critical immersion into projects that have defined Portugal and influenced its presence abroad since the Revolution of 1974. The exhibition is structured around three main thematic pillars:

  • Architecture as a Political Gesture: This section highlights projects addressing collective social needs, including public housing initiatives. Notably featured is the Pantera Cor de Rosa Housing Complex in Lisbon, designed by Gonçalo Byrne and António Reis Cabrita.
  • The Persistence of Memory: This category explores the interplay between contemporary architecture and historical legacy, showcasing notable projects like the rehabilitation of the Bolhão Market led by Nuno Valentim.
  • Breaks and New Configurations: This section includes innovative works that challenge tradition and embrace advanced technologies and sustainability, featuring the Côa Museum by Camilo Rebelo and Tiago Pimentel.

Visitor Information

The exhibition will run until April 26, 2026, and will feature interactive dialogue and engagement opportunities. The curatorial team will host talks on February 14 and April 11 at 4 PM.
