Assault Charge Filed After Serious Injury on Backworth Estate

A serious incident occurred on January 28 on the Backworth estate, resulting in significant police action. A man in his 50s suffered serious injuries early in the morning, prompting urgent emergency responses.

Incident Overview

Emergency services were summoned to Hotspur North around 4:40 a.m. following reports of a seriously injured man. After receiving medical attention, the victim was discharged later that same day.

Police Investigation

Northern England’s Northumbria Police conducted an extensive investigation. Authorities set up two cordons around a grassy area close to where the incident took place. This area, situated at the intersection of Hotspur North and Briardene Way, was secured for forensic analysis.

Charges Filed

Following their investigation, police identified a suspect. Samuel Olvhoj, a 37-year-old resident of Wilfred Street in Newcastle, has been charged with:

  • Wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
  • Possession of an offensive weapon

Olvhoj appeared at Mid and South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court on February 2 and is currently remanded in custody. He is set to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on March 2.
