Authorities are investigating a violent home invasion that occurred in Moree, prompting an alert after the discovery of a suspicious item nearby. The incident involved a group of teenagers who allegedly targeted a residence early Tuesday morning.
Details of the Home Invasion
On Tuesday, around 3:30 AM, a group of four young individuals reportedly forced their way into a house on Merindah Avenue in Moree. During the invasion, they threatened a 72-year-old woman and two men, aged 40 and 69 years.
The assailants used bricks as weapons, injuring both men, who sustained injuries to their faces and hands. The victims were subsequently transported to the hospital and are now in stable condition.
Investigative Action and Arrests
Prior to the invasion, police attempted to stop a stolen Haval SUV believed to be used by the suspects on the Gwydir Highway, approximately an hour and a half before the assault. Despite their efforts, the vehicle evaded capture.
Following the incident, law enforcement executed searches at various locations in Moree. Two teenage boys, aged 17 and 18, were taken into custody on Wednesday and Thursday. They each face multiple charges related to the violent crime and are set to appear in court.
