UFC president Dana White recently addressed the highly anticipated White House event scheduled for June. However, he confirmed that a showdown between Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler will not headline this occasion.

During an interview with Complex, White was questioned about the possibility of McGregor returning to the octagon to face Chandler. White’s response was clear and direct: “No, that was a couple of years ago.” This statement casts doubt on McGregor’s participation in the upcoming event.
McGregor’s Recent Activity
Conor McGregor has been mostly inactive since 2021. He was last seen in the octagon when he suffered a broken leg during a fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. Since then, he has engaged in various projects, including promoting the film Road House, and even teased a political run in Ireland, which did not materialize. Additionally, McGregor faced legal troubles, being found liable for sexual assault in a civil case from 2018.
Despite his claims of being a changed man and ready to fight, it appears that UFC executives and McGregor are not aligned on future plans. White mentioned, “We’ll see if Conor’s going to come back or not. We’ve been talking about it for a while. We’ll see how it plays out.”
Jon Jones’ Uncertainty
As for Jon Jones, the former two-division champion announced his retirement in June 2025. However, he has hinted at a comeback after the announcement of the White House event. White, who has his reservations about Jones, expressed skepticism regarding his reliability. “Can I count on Jon Jones? Can’t have Jon Jones doing something bad or pulling out of the f*cking White House fight,” he stated.

At this time, no fights have been officially scheduled for the White House event. White indicated that plans will not progress until after UFC 324, set for January 24, 2026. He shared some logistical details, noting that the venue will host 5,000 seats on the South Lawn, with fighters making their entrance from the Oval Office.
