Teenager Arrested for Assaulting Two Officers During Derry Fight Response
A teenager was taken into custody after an alleged assault on two police officers in County Derry. The arrest followed a police response to a reported fight on Sackville Street.
Incident details
Officers said the report came in shortly before 9.30pm on Friday, 17 April 2026. The call described an ongoing altercation between two men in the Sackville Street area.
During the police response, one man reportedly became aggressive. A bottle in his possession was said to have been smashed.
Arrest and injuries
Police arrested a male in his late teens on suspicion of assault on police. He also faces an allegation of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Two officers sustained injuries to their hands and arms during the incident. They were treated following the confrontation and remain part of the ongoing inquiry.

PSNI Sergeant Sweeney confirmed officers attended after receiving the call. He said enquiries remain active as investigators gather more evidence.
