Western WA Powerball Player Scores Big Win Despite Missing Jackpot

A Western WA Powerball player scored a big win after missing the jackpot. The ticket matched four white balls and the red Powerball in the April 18 drawing.

Winning ticket and prize

The winning ticket was bought at a Safeway store at 4831 Northwest Point Fosdick Drive in Gig Harbor. Gig Harbor is about a 20-minute drive from Tacoma.

The play matched four white balls plus the red Powerball. That result normally pays $50,000.

The player had added the Power Play option. The multiplier raised the payout to $250,000.

Drawing numbers and jackpot

The April 18 drawing produced the numbers 24, 25, 39, 46 and 61. The red Powerball was 1.

As of Monday, April 20, the headline jackpot stood at $87 million. The estimated cash value was $39.7 million.

The next Powerball drawing was scheduled for Monday, April 20, at 7:59 p.m.

How the game works

Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Each play costs $2.

Players may add a $1 Power Play to multiply non-jackpot prizes. A $1 Double Play option enters a separate drawing.

The jackpot requires matching all five white balls and the red Powerball. The odds of winning the jackpot are one in 292,201,338.
