Nationals Triumph 3-0 Over Giants in April 19 Game Recap
On April 19, the Nationals triumphed 3-0 over the Giants in a tidy game recap. Washington avoided a three-game sweep with a shutout victory at Nationals Park.
Pitching carried the day
Andrew Alvarez earned the win in long relief. Recalled from Triple-A Rochester earlier Sunday, he worked 4 1/3 scoreless innings.
Alvarez allowed three hits, struck out five and issued no walks. His outing stabilized a game that needed length from the bullpen.
Starter and bullpen notes
Robbie Ray took the loss. He lasted six innings, gave up three runs on seven hits, struck out seven and walked one.
Miles Mikolas replaced opener PJ Poulin early. Mikolas worked four innings, allowed four hits, struck out four and walked one.
Key offensive moments
Washington’s three runs came in the fifth inning. Nasim Nuñez beat out a drag bunt and promptly stole second base.
Keibert Ruiz followed with a line drive to left-center that allowed Nuñez to score. Curtis Mead then launched a first-pitch changeup over the left-field wall for a two-run homer.
Giants missed opportunities
San Francisco went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. The Giants left 10 men on base.
Rafael Devers and Drew Gilbert each recorded two hits. Still, the club was blanked for the fourth time this season.
