De Ligt Still Far from Return: “He Hasn’t Reached That Phase Yet”
Matthijs de Ligt remains sidelined at Manchester United due to a back injury sustained in November. He is not yet training with the first team.
Club update from Carrick
Manager Michael Carrick provided the latest update during a Saturday press briefing. He said treatment and rehabilitation are De Ligt’s current focus.
Carrick added that the defender continued individual work in Manchester. “He hasn’t reached that phase yet,” the manager said.
Training, schedule and recent developments
United took an extra week off after the international break. The hiatus followed the club’s elimination from the FA Cup.
The squad trained in Ireland for several days. De Ligt stayed behind because he is not yet training on grass.
International hopes
De Ligt aims to recover in the coming weeks. He hopes to be available for selection in the Netherlands’ 26-man World Cup squad.
Lisandro Martínez set for return
Another former Ajax defender could rejoin the matchday group sooner. Lisandro Martínez has been sidelined since February with an injury.
Martínez is likely to be included in Carrick’s squad for Monday night’s match against Leeds United.
