Amanda Holden Apologizes to Hollywood Star for ‘Plonker’ Remark Post-Interview
Amanda Holden has withdrawn a criticism aimed at a Hollywood actor after recalling the reason behind his choice of jewellery. The exchange happened during a Heart Radio segment with co-host Jamie Theakston.
Radio exchange about a celebrity leader
The presenters asked listeners which famous figure could lead Earth if aliens invaded. One caller suggested Morgan Freeman. Jamie praised Freeman’s voice and likened him to the “voice of God”.
He also mentioned an interview in which Freeman wore a dangling earring. Amanda said she had briefly lost respect and called the look a “plonker” moment. She compared the earring to the style of a soap-opera character.
Freeman’s explanation for his jewellery
The pair then recalled a 2019 interview in which Morgan Freeman explained his reason for wearing gold jewellery. He said sailors once wore such pieces so someone could buy a coffin if they died far from home. That practical origin prompted Amanda to rethink her remark.
A public apology
Amanda Holden apologised to the Hollywood star for calling him a “plonker” after that post-interview discussion. She said she no longer viewed him negatively and called his choice savvy. The on-air U-turn came after the hosts revisited Freeman’s explanation.
Other noted difficult guests
The topic of challenging interviews surfaced in the same week. Graham Norton named Mark Wahlberg as one of his worst guests during a recent festival appearance. Speaking to Filmogaz.com at the Henley Literary Festival 2025, Norton described Wahlberg becoming intoxicated and falling asleep on the couch during the show.
Britain’s Got Talent returns tonight at 7pm on ITV and on ITVX. Amanda Holden continues to serve as one of the show’s judges.
