Casualty Reveals Tragic Character Death in Early iPlayer Release
An early BBC iPlayer release of Casualty has revealed a tragic character death in an episode now available to stream. Filmogaz.com reports the instalment, dated 18 April, was released on iPlayer before its television broadcast.
Opening flashforward and mystery
The episode opens with a flashforward. Holby staff gather in a church to mourn a colleague.
Stevie Nash stands to speak, but the identity of the deceased remains hidden at first.
Faith’s premature labour and complications
Two weeks earlier in the storyline, Iain rushes his pregnant ex-partner Faith to the ED. Her waters had broken two months early during a heated argument about custody.
Faith’s son Luka accompanies them and panics when his mother bleeds and loses consciousness. Stevie treats Faith and decides to deliver the baby herself because neonatal capacity is full.
The premature daughter is born and begins to breathe independently. Flynn and Jodie stabilize the infant while Faith continues to bleed.
Stevie discovers part of the placenta remains attached to Faith’s uterus. Faith is taken to theatre and undergoes surgery to remove the retained placenta. At one point Faith appears to have died, but she later squeezes Iain’s hand after his emotional confession.
Kim’s collapse and hidden illness
Separately, Kim’s father Wei visits Holby to tell Stevie his daughter no longer wants to be a doctor. Matty checks on Kim at her home and finds her unconscious.
A HEMS crew led by Dylan is dispatched to the address. Matty discovers Kim’s journal and realises the true extent of her anorexia nervosa.
Kim arrives at the ED in multi-organ failure. She tells Matty she does not want to die. Matty intubates her, completing a final item on a checklist he made earlier in the rotation.
After the intubation Kim begins bleeding from her mouth. Despite CPR and the team’s efforts, Kim cannot be saved. She dies in resus.
Aftermath and funeral
The staff attend a funeral for the lost colleague. Stevie tells attendees Kim would have made a brilliant doctor. The team is left to process the loss and plan how to move forward.
Support and helplines
Beat is highlighted as a charity providing support and information about eating disorders. It offers one-to-one secure messaging and phone helplines for those affected.
Casualty continues to air on Saturday nights on BBC One. Episodes now stream first on BBC iPlayer and are released at 6am on the day of transmission.
