Selena Gomez to Lead Brady Corbet’s X-Rated, Four-Hour Western ‘The Origin of the World’
Selena Gomez will lead Brady Corbet’s X-rated, four-hour western, a project now in pre-production. Filmogaz.com reports a 50-day shoot is planned in Portugal and South Africa.
Production details
The script currently runs about 200 pages. Corbet’s previous film, which ran three and a half hours, was 150 pages.
He plans to shoot on 65mm film. The production schedule calls for an intensive 50-day shoot across two countries.
Story and themes
The story is set against Northern California immigration themes. The narrative spans roughly 150 years from the nineteenth century to the present.
Much of the plot centers on the 1970s. Corbet says the film will explore American mysticism and the history of the occult.
He has consulted with occultist historian Mitch Horowitz. That collaboration will inform the film’s thematic research.
Cast and crew
Gomez is attached to star. This marks a major collaboration between her and director Brady Corbet.
Composer Daniel Blumberg will return to score the film. It remains unclear if cinematographer Lol Crawley will rejoin the team.
Crawley is currently working on Damien Chazelle’s new movie in Greece. Corbet’s film would be his fourth feature after three prior titles.
