Brecel and Lisowski Eliminated on World Championship Judgement Day Live

Qualifying for the World Snooker Championship 2026 reached its climax on Judgement Day at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. The Crucible will stage its 50th edition next month. The world’s top 16 had already secured their places. The final 16 qualifiers were decided across two days of play.

Jones halts Brecel’s defence

Jak Jones booked his place at the Crucible with a 10-5 win over Luca Brecel on Wednesday. The Welshman produced a heavy-scoring display, compiling multiple centuries across the contest. Brecel, the 2023 world champion, offered resistance with a late 79 clearance but could not overturn Jones’ momentum.

Jones is the 2024 finalist and now heads into Thursday’s last-32 draw. He praised the event’s atmosphere and said he felt in strong form throughout qualifying. On Judgement Day at the World Championship qualifiers, both Brecel and Lisowski were eliminated live.

Other successful qualifiers

Zhang Anda cruised to a 10-3 victory over Zak Surety. His session included several centuries, with 109, 105, 134, 108 and 143 among his breaks. Liam Highfield produced a commanding 10-2 win over Oliver Lines to join the field.

Ali Carter recovered from a deficit to beat Anthony McGill 10-7. Carter won five consecutive frames late in the match to seal qualification. Gary Wilson edged past Xu Si 10-9, finishing with a 126 break as he overturned a deficit in a tight decider.

Lisowski exits in shock

Northern Ireland Open champion Jack Lisowski failed to reach the Crucible. He lost 10-5 to China’s He Guoqiang, who recorded a 138 break and led 5-0 early. Lisowski’s exit confirmed he will not appear at the 2026 World Championship.
