Firefighters Battle Sutton Bonington Blaze; Residents Urged to Shut Doors and Windows
On Wednesday 15 April crews from Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire and Derbyshire fire services responded to a large open fire at the Hathernware Industrial Estate in Sutton Bonington. The site sits on the Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire border.
Fire response and scale
The blaze involved buildings, timber and trailers, emergency crews confirmed. Firefighters battled the Sutton Bonington blaze with eight fire appliances between the services.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue posted updates at 11:15am. They said firefighters were working hard to contain the incident.
Transport disruption
East Midlands Railway reported at 12:15pm a fire next to the track at Barrow-upon-Soar. The affected section lies between Sileby and Loughborough on the Leicester/Loughborough/Nottingham route.
Trains running through the area cannot call at Barrow-upon-Soar in either direction. Operators expected the problem to be fixed within two hours, with the advertised timetable due to resume by 14:00.
Public safety advice
A Leicestershire spokesperson advised nearby residents to keep doors and windows closed. A large smoke plume was present, increasing the risk of smoke inhalation.
