Beloved Police Horse, Local Legend, Passes Away at Wycombe Equine Charity

Filmogaz.com reports that Trojan, a former Thames Valley Police horse born in 2003, has died at The Horse Trust in West Wycombe. The charity announced his passing on April 11.

Trojan retired in 2019 because of ongoing lameness. He spent his retirement at the West Wycombe site, relaxing in the field with other ex-service horses.

Supporters described him as a Beloved Police Horse and a Local Legend. The trust’s notice also stated that he “Passes Away at Wycombe Equine Charity”.

Career highlights

Trojan was a 17hh skewbald gelding. His colourful coat matched a lively temperament.

  • Served five and a half years with Thames Valley Police.
  • Praised for bravery and dependability in busy environments.
  • Regular at major events, including Royal Ascot.
  • Provided policing at football fixtures in Oxford, Reading, Brighton, Leicester, Portsmouth, Wycombe and Southampton.

Retirement and health

The charity managed Trojan’s lameness with careful support and medication. This allowed him a good quality of life in retirement.

His condition worsened in recent weeks. Firmer spring ground became increasingly difficult for him.

Life at The Horse Trust

The trust said Trojan was much loved by staff, sponsors and visitors. He was a popular sponsored horse, with regular updates and photos shared with the public.

The Horse Trust cares for about 140 horses, ponies and donkeys. Annual care for each resident costs roughly £7,000.

Other arrivals and companions

Recently, Luna, another former Thames Valley Police Mounted Section horse, moved into the charity after retirement. She is known for wearing custom-made “neigh-bands” sunglasses.

Luna joined fellow service horses Odin, described as her “horse husband,” and Atlas earlier this month. Trojan is now remembered alongside his four-legged companions.

The charity paid tribute to Trojan’s courage, warmth and gentle nature. He will be missed by colleagues, supporters and friends at the yard.
