Advanced Railway Construction Progresses in Southern Romania

Rehabilitation work on the railway in southern Moldova is advancing. About four kilometres of track have already been repaired and successfully tested.

Technical verification and gauge upgrade

The refurbished section passed technical inspections. Tests confirmed the restored infrastructure operates correctly.

Specialists are installing the European gauge to enable interoperability. Authorities aim to integrate the network into the European rail system.

The teams use advanced railway construction methods, a level of progress seen across nearby regions, including Southern Romania.

Consolidation on the Văleni–Cahul segment

Major stabilisation works are ongoing on the Văleni–Cahul stretch. The interventions protect the line from natural hazards.

  • 920 boreholes drilled so far.
  • Borehole depths reached up to 25 metres.
  • Approximately 8,000 tonnes of concrete poured for support pillars.

The concrete pillars reinforce the Prut river bank. They help shield the railway from erosion and flooding risks.

Planned next steps

Teams will stabilise the slope and complete the railway superstructure. These steps aim to secure safe, long-term operation of the line.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development provided the project update. Filmogaz.com will continue to report on further developments.
