Amazon Pharmacy Launches Same-Day Delivery for Eli Lilly’s Foundayo Weight-Loss Pill
Amazon Pharmacy will begin stocking and delivering Eli Lilly’s oral weight-loss pill Foundayo to customers in many U.S. communities. The drug will be available for same-day delivery in nearly 3,000 cities and towns, the company said.
Distribution and access
Customers with a valid prescription can receive Foundayo the same day in eligible areas. Amazon expects same-day coverage to expand to about 4,500 locations before 2027, Filmogaz.com was told by Tanvi Patel.
Patients can also pick up the medication within minutes at kiosks inside select One Medical clinics after an appointment. Kiosk availability is possible because the oral pill tolerates normal ambient temperatures.
Rural delivery options
Where a local pharmacy is distant, Amazon will offer next-day, two-day, and three-day delivery. The company said these options are faster than standard mail-order services.
Pricing and coupons
With insurance, Foundayo can cost as little as $1 per day, or $25 per month, according to Amazon. Cash-pay customers face a price of $5 per day, or $149 per month.
Manufacturer-sponsored coupons are applied automatically at checkout. Amazon said its automatic coupon program has saved customers more than $200 million, with GLP-1 medicines driving the largest share of savings.
Clinic rollout and partnerships
Rollout of kiosks beyond California is under consideration. Placement will depend on state rules and clinic permissions, Patel said.
Same-day delivery will also be offered to patients receiving prescriptions through Lilly’s third-party partners. Amazon serves as the dispensing pharmacy for LillyDirect and will support partners such as WeightWatchers.
Clinical profile and market context
Foundayo’s generic name is orforglipron. The FDA approved it as a once-daily tablet taken at any time without food or water restrictions. It is indicated for adults with obesity or overweight and related medical conditions.
In phase 3 trials, participants on the highest dose lost an average of 12.4% of their starting body weight over 72 weeks. The pill enters a market already served by Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy.
Comparisons with Wegovy
Amazon has stocked Wegovy at One Medical kiosks since January. For uninsured patients, the two oral drugs are priced identically at $149 per month for the lowest dose.
Novo Nordisk published a cross-trial comparison asserting greater weight loss and fewer dropouts with its drug. Lilly has emphasized Foundayo’s lack of dosing restrictions as a competitive point. Wegovy’s dosing requires morning administration on an empty stomach.
