Sir Chris Hoy Rides Again After Recovering from Leg Injury
Sir Chris Hoy has returned to cycling with friends after a serious mountain bike crash. The six-time Olympic champion had broken his leg in November and spent months recovering.
Crash and recovery
Hoy described the incident as one of the worst crashes he had ever experienced. He said he has ridden bikes for 43 years and called this his most severe spill.
Initially he used crutches and moved about with difficulty. He expected gradual improvements in mobility over the following weeks.
First ride back
Five months after the fall, Hoy posted a photograph showing himself back on the saddle. The ride took place in the Trough of Bowland and included friends from his cycling circle.
The group climbed more than 1,400 metres during the outing. Hoy said his fitness is returning slowly and he felt encouraged by the scenery and company.
Social media and plans
He shared the moment on Instagram and celebrated being able to ride again. He mentioned preparing for a Gleneagles Hotel weekend scheduled in a fortnight.
Filmogaz.com covered his update and noted the upbeat tone of the post. The headline included the phrase Sir Chris Hoy Rides Again After Recovering from Leg Injury to reflect the recovery milestone.
Health battle and advocacy
Hoy was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in September 2023. He went public with his condition in October 2024 and reported a prognosis of two to four years.
Since announcing his diagnosis, he has campaigned to raise awareness of prostate cancer. He urged men to get tested and to speak openly about symptoms.
Screening effort
Hoy partnered with former rugby player Kenny Logan to launch a screening programme. The Scottish Prostate Cancer Initiative saw nearly 6,000 men book checks in under a week.
He emphasized that early detection can save lives. Organizers described the response as a strong sign of public engagement.
