Masters 2026: Bryson DeChambeau Falters at 18, Misses Cut
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Bryson DeChambeau faced a disappointing end to his Masters 2026 tournament. Heading into the final hole on Friday, he needed just a bogey to secure his spot for the weekend. Instead, he walked off the 18th green with a devastating triple bogey, which eliminated him from contention.
Bryson DeChambeau’s Tough Road at the Masters
After a challenging first round that included a triple bogey on the 11th hole, DeChambeau finished Round 1 in a tie for 56th with a score of +3. A late birdie at No. 15 on Friday seemed to revive his hopes, bringing him to +3 for the tournament.
However, disaster struck on the 18th hole. DeChambeau’s drive landed in the woods, leading to a difficult sequence of shots. A recovery attempt pushed him into a greenside bunker. Just like the previous day at No. 11, he failed to exit the bunker with his first attempt. Ultimately, he finished the hole with a score of 7, sealing his fate and ensuring he would not play over the weekend.
Other Players’ Performance
While DeChambeau struggled, fellow competitor Jon Rahm had an opposite experience. After finishing Round 1 at +6, Rahm made significant strides on Friday. A crucial birdie at 16 brought him back into contention at +4, allowing him to make the cut.
Brian Harman, overcoming an initial score of +10, showcased a remarkable comeback. He made seven birdies, with only one bogey, finishing the second round at +4.
- Akshay Bhatia faced heartbreak as well. Positioned at +5, he needed to avoid disaster on the 18th, but instead recorded a double bogey, placing him above the cutline.
- Former Masters champions Danny Willett and Bubba Watson finished at +5, while Zach Johnson was at +6, all missing the cut.
- J.J. Spaun (+5) and Robert MacIntyre (+7) also failed to qualify for the weekend.
MacIntyre, ranked eighth in the world, suffered a disastrous Round 1 at the 15th hole. His performance took a turn for the worse after two water balls led to a quadruple bogey, and he was reportedly reprimanded for his frustrated gestures.
As the tournament progresses, the focus will shift to those who successfully made the cut and will continue competing for the prestigious title at the Masters 2026.
