“Overwatch Season 2 Refreshes Mercy and Veteran Heroes”

Blizzard is moving several legacy abilities into hero kits ahead of Overwatch Season 2. Alec Dawson, associate game director, previewed the changes in a developer blog on Friday.

Key hero adjustments arriving April 14

The first set of updates goes live on April 14 with Season 2. Mercy will gain her flash-heal perk as a permanent ability.

Reaper will have his long-range volley active by default. Pharah’s drift boosters will always be on, allowing movement while casting her ultimate.

List of immediate perk integrations

  • Mercy — flash-heal becomes part of her kit.
  • Reaper — long-distance volley available at all times.
  • Pharah — continuous drift boosters for ult mobility.

Planned reworks and unknowns

Blizzard also flagged Roadhog, Lifeweaver, and Sombra for later reworks. Dawson offered no specifics about how their kits will change.

The team intends to add new perks to replace those moved into hero kits. Details on those replacement perks were not disclosed.

Design goals behind the changes

Dawson said the update aims to modernize older heroes without adding unnecessary complexity. The developers want utility and clarity rather than kit bloat.

He described the process as a careful, initial pass. The goal was to choose the most useful options for heroes needing a tune-up.

Context: Season 1 and the healing overhaul

Season 1 altered healing so damaged players receive less heal. That shift reduced some healers’ toolkit and flexibility.

Mercy struggled under the change. She spent more time on sustained heals and had fewer moments to use damage boost or instant-save abilities.

Additional Season 2 content

Season 2 will introduce a new Damage hero, Sierra, also known as Hero 51. Sierra brings homing darts and a drone to the Damage roster.

Native support for the Nintendo Switch 2 is also scheduled to arrive in this update.

What to expect next

Filmogaz.com will continue to monitor developer notes and patch details as they appear. Players should watch for further announcements about the reworks.

These changes mark a targeted effort to refresh Mercy and many veteran heroes while preserving balance. Overwatch players can prepare for the April 14 rollout.
